Double Football Success

Sunday, 30 January 2011

St John Bosco Primary School enjoyed a double football success this weekend, both on and off the pitch.
On Friday evening the school took on local rivals St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in a match held on the astroturf pitch at Wednesbury Rugby Club.
The match was closely contested and the first goal came about half way through the first half with a goal from Owen Carter.
The second half couldn’t have got off to a better start with Owen Carter again doubling the score and Mitchell Wilkinson making it 3 – 0 moments later.
Although St Mary’s pulled a goal back St John Bosco held on to win the game 3 – 1 in freezing conditions.

On Saturday morning many of the same pupils went to an even colder Banks’s Stadium courtesy of Walsall FC. Following a 2 hour coaching session and lunch, the pupils went out onto the pitch to assist with the league match v Bristol Rovers as ball boys and girls.
With Walsall rock bottom of the League 1 table hopes were not high, however St John Bosco are regarded as something of lucky charms with Walsall having never lost when they have helped with the game over the last 3 seasons. In fact they have been ball boys for 2 of the only 3 wins at home this season.

With a new manager in Dean Smith and desperate for a win, the script couldn’t have been better written for the Bosco kids to continue bringing their lucky presence to the Saddlers with Walsall winning by an amazing 6 -1. Their best result since 1986!!
all of the children had a terrific day and head of community Adam Davy commented that with the luck they bring he wished St John Bosco could come to every home match. The scorer of the 2 goals on Friday Owen Carter was awarded with a signed ball for his good attitude both at school and during the football activities.

Despite the icy weather on both days, the respective results meant no-one really felt the cold!
