Fr Hudson’s Coin Trail

Wednesday, 30 March 2011

Most of the school arrived today with bagfulls of pennies ready for the coin trail but when the rain came down at lunchtime it looked like the event might have to be postponed or done in the hall. However the rain stopped, the sun came out and we all went onto the yard to take part. Each class competed to see who could generate the longest line of coins, the results were:
Nursery 8m
Reception 24m
Year 1 9m
Year 2 30m
Year 3 33 m
Year 4 19m
Year 5 31m
Year 6 59 m – CHAMPIONS
These distances were measured by Owen Carter and Kacper Morus with a trundle wheel so are definitely reliable!!
This means over 200m of coins were laid out. Remarkable
at the end of the event the coins were cleared up by Year 6 and after school Mr Mobberley headed for Morrisons at Wednesbury to make use of their Coinstar machine. After 45 minutes of inserting the coins, removing those from Poland, the USA and many Euros the machine told us we had raised £92.20. This will go to the Fr Hudson’s Good Shepherd Appeal. Well done to all who took part.
