Football vs Hargate

Thursday, 30 March 2017

Our boys team put in a brilliant performance today and were incredibly unlucky not to come away with the win. We faced top of the league, Hargate, who had won four from four before today.

We put in our best performance of the season to come away with a 2-2 result. Well done to Odin who captained the team expertly, Mason who capped a Man of the Match performance with a cracking headed goal and Cayden for his well taken equaliser.

Girls’ Football Tournament

Thursday, 30 March 2017

Well done to the girls who played football at the WBA Dome on Wednesday morning. They all played really well.

In total fifteen teams participated in the Sandwell Schools tournament. Team A, despite not conceding a goal all day, finished in third place as they lost in the semi-finals on penalties before going on to win the third place playoff.

Team B performed really well however unfortunately did not progress from their group.

Y5 STEM Day!

Wednesday, 29 March 2017

On Wednesday 29th March, Miss Hampson from Stuart Bathurst spent the day with Year 5. We had a lot of fun on our STEM day. ‘STEM’ is a combination of skills from Science, Technology, English and Maths.

As it is Lent, we foccussed on a project where we looked at flooding around the world and how we could design a house to protect people and communities from the effects of flooding.

We researched places around the world which flood, we looked at different techniques used to make structures and then we planned and made our structures.

We learnt a lot of skills such as team work, communication, measuring, joining, research and designing.

Y5 Boys Survival Day @ Stuart Bathurst

Tuesday, 21 March 2017

On Tuesday 21st March, the Year 5 boys went to Stuart Bathurst. The theme was ‘Bear Grylls Survival’!

The day started with a prayer asking God to keep us safe and to protect us on our journeys. We then got to know the St Mary’s boys.

Our activities included making water filters, building shelters and map reading skills. We learnt the key skills needed to survive in the wild!

At the end of the day we were treated to hot chocolate and marshmallows!

The staff at Stuart Bathurst commented on how well-behaved and enthusiastic our boys were. They were so impressed with them!

Thank you to the staff at Stuart Bathurst for organising the day.

Y5 Stations of the Cross @ St Michael’s

Monday, 20 March 2017

On Friday 17th March, Year 5 visited Father Stan and Father Damien at St Michael’s Church in West Bromwich. We attended a special Stations of the Cross service and then the mass afterwards.

It was great to celebrate mass in Church and to share it with Father Stan’s and Father Damien’s parishioners. As it was St Patrick’s day, the mass ended with an Irish hymn. Finally, we were invited to eat and drink with Father Stan, Father Damien and their parishioners.

We learnt a great deal about the events of the stations of the cross. Father Stan explained each of the 14 stations of the cross. We heard readings about Simon helping Jesus to carry his cross, Mary weeping for her child and Jesus meeting the women of Jerusalem. We said the Our Father and Hail Mary after each one.

The stations of the cross are important to Christians as at the end of them, Jesus died for our sins and his body was placed in the tomb.

Irish Poetry for St Patrick’s Day

Friday, 17 March 2017

Year 3 were invited to the Irish Society  to perform Irish poetry in front of the Mayor of Sandwell and Rt Hon John Spellar MP. The children recited two Irish poems to a large audience and they were praised for their Irish pronunciation. Well done Year 3!

St Patrick’s Day

Friday, 17 March 2017

Here at St John Bosco we celebrated St Patrick’s feast day on the 17th March. We all dressed in green and we did special St Patrick’s day activities in our classes.

We started the day with our Congrats assembly where we talked about St Patrick and the vocation he was called to do.

We then celebrated what we had been called to do and our gifts and talents.
