Black Country Games

Saturday, 30 June 2018

After a successful year of sport, we qualified for the school games in 5 different sports – gymnastics, tennis, athletics, tag rugby and girls cricket. Our gymnasts came 8th and our tennis players were 4th in the Black Country, consisting of the best schools from Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall. These were completed as one off events but Friday saw a huge celebration day with all remaining sports taking place at Wolverhampton University.

We were able to bring a huge squad of 38 children across the 3 different sports on the day. We enjoyed the opening ceremony, then went off to separate venues for the competition. Our athletes struggled a little on the track as the opposition was strong. We were better in the field events with several individual winners. Overall, we were pleased with a top ten finish, considering the level of competition.

Meanwhile, our tag rugby team had a tough day too. They played well and got better and better as the day went on. Credit to them all as they showed a a lot of respect and behaved brilliantly in difficult circumstances, with different rules to what they’re used to. Our squad finished 12th on the day and came back smiling.

Finally, our girls cricket team were probably the most inexperienced and nervous of all our competitors. They struggled in their first match, getting beat by 50 runs. However, from that point they seemed to relax and find their confidence. Following their opening defeat, they came back strong and impressively reached the final where we played the same opposition as in the opening game. This time it was much closer. We knew it was tight at the end and all of the girls performed brilliantly. They were delighted to finish second and take home silver medals but were also disappointed to learn that they lost by just 1 run!

A big well done to all of our children and thanks to all staff for bringing them along.

Sports Day

Wednesday, 20 June 2018

We have had a brilliant day at Tipton Sports Academy where we held our Sports Day. For the first time in years, we decided to do a whole school day together so all children from Reception to Year 6 took part.

The children were fantastic in terms of effort, behaviour and attitude.

A big thank you to all of the parents who joined us today.

Y3/4 Swimming Gala

Wednesday, 20 June 2018

A group of 15 children from year 3 and 4 travelled over to King Edward’s Five Ways School in Bartley Green for an exciting evening of swimming. 4 schools took part in the gala and there was a great atmosphere throughout. Each person swam two races and whilst not swimming, the rest of the children created a tremendous atmosphere by shouting and cheering for each other. The performance of the evening came from Adrianne who won the back stroke. All of our children did their best and we were delighted with our 3rd placed medals and badges at the end of the competition. We just missed out on 2nd place by 2 points- 49 to 47 so it was really close. Well done everyone and thanks to the people who organised and transported the children there.

Father’s Day Breakfast

Monday, 18 June 2018

On Monday 18th June we invited our children to bring their dads into school to share breakfast with us. It was a pleasing turnout as many people enjoyed bacon and sausage baps, as well as hot and cold drinks. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to the kitchen staff for the food as well as all other staff who supported the event. Thanks also to everyone who came along, especially the dads!

Sandwell Cricket Tournament

Thursday, 14 June 2018

The boys took part in a cricket competition today at Old Hill Cricket Club. We played three matches – winning two and losing one against a very good side.

This meant that we finished 2nd in our group but unfortunately only the winners of the group progressed to the semi-finals.

Well done to all of the boys that took part. They displayed some superb cricket skills. A particular well done to Fin for the number of sixes he hit and Oskar for some amazing catches.

Lego Day!

Wednesday, 13 June 2018

We had an exciting day building with Lego based on a superhero theme. The aim is to inspire the children to produce some quality written work. We all had a fantastic time. Each class spent at least an hour with the Lego, creating a superhero, a villain and background scenery. Plenty of discussion took place as well as lots of photos to support written work later in the week. A showcase assembly ended the day, with the pictures below. Many thanks to Collette for providing the Lego and to everyone who helped the day run so well.

Upton Warren – Final Update

Friday, 8 June 2018

We all had an amazing time over the last 48 hours or so. The behaviour has been excellent and we’ve done lots of activities. The experience of coming away camping as a class has helped build friendships and bring us closer as a team. The children all slept soundly Thursday night and in the morning we enjoyed cricket, touch rugby and skipping amongst others as we the trip sadly had to come to an end. Thank you to all the staff members for giving up their time and making it a great trip; and well done to class 5 – you have been a credit to the school and your families.

Class 5 say goodbye to the campsite

Enjoying more cricket and some skipping on the big field
