Medical Mavericks

Wednesday, 16 January 2019

This week our school warmly welcomed an assembly from the Medical Mavericks. We listened intently to our guest as we were shown the many different jobs involved in hospitals and medical care to make sure we stay healthy.

We were shown different devices which medical professionals use to check our health and how they work. Some of us even had our own body tested using these pieces of equipment. Here we are getting assessed by these devices!

Inspiration Grant – St John Bosco New Library

11 January 2019

Hateley Cross Big Local Partnership group in December 2018 supported the 3 primary schools Hall Green, Hateley Heath and St John Bosco Catholic in our areas of Hateley Heath and Stone Cross, West Bromwich with funding for Inspired People and Environmental Grant.

Hateley Cross Big Local Partnership group wanted to ensure that young people aspirations raised, involved with their communities, feel valued and there are reasons [and places] for people to come together. A three year funding application was created for local primary schools to apply for.

In the matter of weeks, St John Bosco Catholic Primary School has turned the funding into reality with the fantastic work of Deputy Headteacher Mandy Grubham.

Here we have a before picture of the space (Taken December 2018)

Hateley Cross Big Local joined Governors and competition winners, who created book marks, from St John Bosco Catholic Primary School in January 2019 to officially open the new library in the school. Hateley Cross Big Local funding allowed for books to be purchased and fill the shelves of the library allowing for the Inspiration Grant to be fulfilled in the school.

Safeguarding Assembly

Friday, 11 January 2019

The Sandwell Safeguarding Champions held a whole school assembly to inform all children about their roles and responsibilities. They discussed how they can support children who have concerns in and out of school. It was a very informative assembly and children now have a better understanding of safeguarding and how school and other agencies, NSPCC , Childline, etc can help them if they have any questions, worries or concerns. They also launched a Worry Monster competition where all classes have an opportunity to name their class monster. Good Luck – the winners will be announced early next week.

Sandwell Swimming Gala

Thursday, 10 January 2019

4 boys and 4 girls had a great afternoon at Langley Swimming Baths, competing as one of 15 local schools in a gala. It was a great atmosphere with so many people watching the races, making a lot of noise. Each child competed in one individual race, then combined to work as a team in the relay races at the end. All of our children gave everything they had and encouraged each other really well. Highlights include Holly coming second in the freestyle, Alex in a very competitive butterfly race and our boys relay team who were involved in a very close 4-way finish in their race. Our boys finished in equal 7th and the girls were 8th overall. Well done to all of our children who represented Bosco brilliantly and had a fantastic time.
