Y3-5 Girls’ Football Festival

Saturday, 30 March 2019

Our young team travelled over to Northfield for a football festival on Friday. We played well from start to finish and proved very hard to beat. We were very unfortunate with the draw as the strongest teams and eventual finalists were both in our group. However, we drew 0-0 twice against the runners-up and lost just 1-0 against the team who won it. Throughout these games there was nothing between the teams and I was proud of the girls’ efforts. In our last game we really found our confidence and scored 3 great goals in a 3-0 win with Grace, Maisie and Sania scoring. Well done to all of the girls – their attitude and work rate were outstanding. A very tough call but the laces go to Bodil for a very solid performance in her first ever games for Bosco!

A Roman Gladiator Visits Bosco!

Friday, 29 March 2019

The Roman Empire had taken over Bosco! Today, the children had a unique insight into life in Roman Britain. A┬áRoman soldier in full armour, known as Lucius Felix Silvanus, spoke to the children about life as a gladiator, displayed his weaponry and demonstrated the equipment used. The children were led through a soldiers’ drill and a mock barbarian battle. Lucius also spent time to describe the food he ate, the way he bathed and taken time to play some Roman games.

After a week of hard-work, Lucius Felix Silvanus treated the children to co-hosting the congrats assembly!

The Great Fire of London

Friday, 29 March 2019

Class 2 have worked really hard in their D&T lessons this week to create Pudding Lane, where the Great Fire of London began. This links to our current history topic and the children have had a lot of fun and learnt many facts about the event too. At first we made the houses to look like new before we then added the fire and all of the damage to the homes. Take a look at the pictures. Well done class 2!

Y4/5 Boys’ Football Competition

Friday, 29 March 2019

To round off a busy day of sport we travelled over to the Priory School in Edgbaston for a 12 team football festival. We entered two teams who played 5 matches each. We started slowly with both our A and B teams losing their first two games as nerves got the better of us. However, we then settled down and started to play better football. We looked far more together, made ourselves harder to beat and kept possession far better. Both teams then achieved their first draw, before winning a game each with goals from Aniekeme and Simon. Our A team came 4th in their league and the B team were 5th in theirs. There were some promising individual performances as the competition went on. The boys became more confident and certainly had fun too. Well done all and thanks to all who travelled over to cheer us on. The laces go to Mitchell for his excellent defence throughout, making so many tackles blocks.

Sandwell Basketball Competition

Friday, 29 March 2019

We had a great afternoon at George Salter Academy for the annual Sandwell basketball festival. There was plenty of good basketball played and the standard was high. Our B team were less experienced and found it tough going but battled well. Jayden did a fantastic job leading the team and Simon scored the points for us.

Meanwhile, our A team put in some mixed performances but played well when it really mattered. They managed to top their league of 6 and qualify for the Finals evening, coming up before Easter. The points were shared on this team with Remari and Nathaniel scoring multiple times. Jacob did well to continue despite an injured finger and Grace worked tirelessly. The laces though go to Aaron for his calmness, scoring the winning basket in the final game.

Tag Rugby League Success

Tuesday, 26 March 2019

It was a busy final day of this year’s league for both our A and B teams over at Kings Norton Rugby Club. Both teams played 5 matches each and performed very well. The B team were top of the league going into these games and managed 3 wins and 2 draws on the night to comfortably win their league! They played some excellent rugby with most of them scoring tries. Jacob, Grace, Owen and Holly all carried the ball extremely well, running great support lines.

Meanwhile, our A team had mixed results with 2 wins and 3 defeats. We were challenging for top spot previously but this pushed us back slightly to finish 3rd overall. However, the standard of rugby was incredibly high and most matches could have gone either way. Patrick did very well stepping up to this team for the first time, Paulina led the team well and the tries were shared amongst the squad as they played some good team rugby.

Well done to everyone involved and thanks to those who travelled over to support us.

Swimming Gala

Sunday, 24 March 2019

16 of our children took part in the annual swimming gala at the Abbey Stadium Sports Centre in Redditch. It was a great occasion with five different schools participating and almost 100 children, not to mention nearly 200 spectators! We started well with three 2nd place finishes in a row from Holly, Alex and Jess. After that though we found it tough going – the standard was extremely high. We kept working hard and did our best throughout. In the end we managed two 1st places through Jess and Ewelina. Every child earned themselves a medal and had a fantastic time, being cheered on by the crowd and making friends with children from other schools. Our laces for this event go to Holly, Ewelina and Sanvir for their excellent attitude, giving everything a go, and encouraging others too. Well done to all involved and thank you so much to all the supporters who came along – it was a truly memorable evening!

Edgmond Hall – Final Day

Friday, 22 March 2019

We all had a peaceful night again as the children have behaved brilliantly throughout the trip. All school and centre staff have been extremely impressed! After breakfast this morning we had some free time before feeding the chickens and goats one last time. Then we set off to collect wood for the camp fire in a boys vs girls challenge! To end the trip, we all sang songs around the camp fire. It has been an amazing couple of days and the children have been a pleasure! Well done everyone and enjoy a well deserved weekend.

Edgmond Hall – Den Building

Thursday, 21 March 2019

It has been another action-packed afternoon and evening, full of excitement, activities and laughter. All children had a go at building a water-proof, strong shelter as well as creating a spark to start a fire. It was great fun with some of us having to crawl into our shelters as they came under attack from the watering can! Two of our groups scored a perfect 30 out of 30 for creating strong, water-proof structures whilst demonstrating excellent teamwork.

Following more free time and a lovely roast dinner the children showered and got comfy with their snacks to watch a film. Another memorable day!

Edgmond Hall – Day 2

Thursday, 21 March 2019

After a lovely, quiet night, the children were up and ready to do some jobs around the site this morning before breakfast. After our food we had some play time before beginning the main activities of the morning. We learnt about and fed some of the animals, learnt about some plants and did some gardening, and completed different blindfold challenges including over an obstacle course. Another great day so far!
