Girls’ Football League Game

Monday, 30 September 2019

A week on from our first game, we played our second against Shirelands Hall, once again in the driving rain! This didn’t deter anybody though as both teams had lots of fun and entertained us with an exciting game. The first goal took a while but eventually, Ochuko scored a well-deserved goal. This was followed by a great run and finish by Grace to make it 2-0 at half time. We continued to attack well in the second half although Shirelands found some extra energy too and looked threatening on the break. A highly entertaining second half saw the game end 5-2. Grace completed her hat-trick in a player of the match display and Ochuko scored a second goal too. Well done to all involved. Despite the weather, it was a great game played in the right spirit.

Year Six problem Solving Day

Friday, 27 September 2019

Year Six really enjoyed their day on Monday. They completed a number of activities and challenges where their only way to succeed was to work together effectively.

Thank you to The Problem Solving Company for a great day and well done to all of the children who did us proud.

Macmillan Coffee Day

Friday, 27 September 2019

Today has been a great success;  it was lovely to see so many parents eating cakes, drinking tea and coffee and donating to a very worthy cause. The pupil leaders did a fantastic job of helping to set up and sell cakes. Thank you all for joining us and for your generous contributions.

Literacy / RWI Open Morning

Wednesday, 25 September 2019

A number of parents joined their children this morning for a Read Write Inc or reading based literacy lesson. It was very well attended and it was great to witness the interaction between children, parents and staff. We received very positive feedback and intend to run more events throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Girls’ Football League Game

Monday, 23 September 2019

This year, we are part of the local Sandwell girls’ football league, playing 6 games over the season. We began against Grove Vale today with the girls eventually putting in a strong performance, following a slightly nervous start. Margaret had to be at her best in goal on several occasions in the first half before Grace scored a good goal to settle us down. Grace scored her second early in the second half and Sania got the third. Everyone played well in the second half and the game ended 3-1. We now look forward to three more games before half term.

Working together to learn about numbers

Friday, 20 September 2019

Class 5 and class 1 joined together which gave the older children an opportunity to become ‘teachers’ and help the younger ones learn more about numbers. We used egg boxes to help children visualise numbers and support understanding of number bonds to ten. All of the children enjoyed it and gained something from the experience, so we intend to run these short sessions every week.

Visit to Worcestershire County Cricket Club

Tuesday, 17 September 2019

A group of enthusiastic children came along to New Road, Worcester to watch Worcestershire play against Gloucestershire in a County Championship game. It was a fantastic afternoon, with the staff at Worcestershire looking after us superbly. After being greeted, we watched the final hour of Worcestershire’s innings before being given a tour of the ground, including the museum. The children asked lots of questions and learnt a number of things about cricket and New Road itself, including its history of flooding. We were then treated to some free merchandise by the kind staff at club shop before it was arranged that we could meet some current and former Worcestershire players for autographs and photos. The weather was excellent too, so we sat and watched some more of the game before leaving with it finely poised as the hosts hope to take the remaining 6 wickets to get the win tomorrow morning. Again, huge thanks to Dan and all the staff at Worcestershire for making our visit so memorable and well done to all of the children who were complimented by several spectators for their super behaviour. We look forward to going back in the near future.

Times Tables Rock Stars launch day

Friday, 13 September 2019

All children now have access to the online maths programme Times Tables Rock Stars. So far, almost all children have enjoyed playing this at home as well as in school. In order to raise the profile of learning times tables, we enjoyed a Rock Stars day at school, with everyone dressing up, including the staff. We even had a couple of staff v children battles during assembly time, which the children won! Well done to everyone for making the effort to create an enjoyable day.

Trip To Edgbaston

Friday, 13 September 2019

We had a lovely evening at Edgbaston Cricket Ground watching Warwickshire play against Essex in the County Championship. Warwickshire had the best of the evening taking three late wickets to put them in a strong position in the match. The players were kind enough to pose for a photo and sign autographs and we all had a good time exploring the venue and watching the cricket in the pleasant late summer weather. Well done to all who came as the behaviour was fantastic and thanks to all at Warwickshire for allowing us to come along.

Friday, 13 September 2019

We celebrated our first Mass of the new school year on Thursday. It was well led by class 6 and all staff and students made their commitment promises for the year. Thank you to Fr Josephat for celebrating Mass with us.
