Big Spring Clean

Year 6 pupils from St John Bosco Primary School did their bit for the community last week by taking part in the ‘Big Spring Clean’ organised by Tipton Litterwatch, around the locality of their school.
Armed with litter picking sticks and bags and sporting high visibility vests the pupils split into 2 groups to tackle the litter that had built up around the streets and recreation areas of West Bromwich.
Before setting off the children had been briefed by a representative of Litterwatch about which types of litter was recyclable and which was not and given colour coordinated bags to sort it in to.
The pupils set about the task with energy and enthusiasm and in no time at all had filled over 20 bags of litter. They were particularly happy when, on seeing them working hard in the locality of their pub, the manager of the ‘Coach and Horses’ appeared with a bottle of pop for each child. A lovely gesture.
On return to school the pupils were given certificates and small presents from Litterwatch and the school awarded a trophy for participating. All of Year 6 will be promoting the message of don’t drop litter around school.
