Safeguarding

At St John Bosco Catholic Primary School we take the safety and wellbeing of the children in our school very seriously and we expect all staff, volunteers, governors and parents to do the same.

We have a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which is available on our Policies and Documents page. Also see a letter on our FGM reporting arrangements.

Other policies which affect the wellbeing of children are: Attendance; Behaviour; Anti-Bullying; Computer and Internet Use (E-safety) and our Child Welfare Policy which contains guidance on administration of medicines, off-site visits and procedures for missing or non-collected children.

We follow the Safer Recruitment Policy and the Department of Education guidance: ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.

We also are part of Operation Encompass - a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership that supports children exposed to domestic abuse.

We follow data protection and confidentiality policies.

We have a Health and Safety Policy for the practical protection of children and staff and regular walk rounds to inspect the site are conducted by the Site Manager, Governors and Leadership teams.

All staff receive extensive Child Protection (CP) training and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance appropriate to their position in school.

Sandwell Safeguarding Champions

Our Safeguarding Champions

As part of a Sandwell Council initiative to improve and promote peer to peer support in keeping children safe, a Sandwell Safeguarding Champion competition was introduced to find willing children to participate in 1:1 support for their school.

The training took part at Sandwell Primary Academy where the children were trained in supporting and promoting safeguarding. They are now trained to talk to children and address any concerns they may have. With the support of the adult safeguarding team within school we aim to provide a comprehension safeguarding approach.

All children are present in the playground so that any child with a concern can talk to a safeguarding champion. Their training will help them decide if the concern needs adult intervention. This service provides a confidential and secure method of ensuring that children have a voice and that they can freely express their worries and will be taken seriously.
