A huge well done to both our boys and girls football teams who represented Sandwell in the County Finals on Saturday morning. It was extremely cold but our children and supporters were in good spirits and did themselves proud throughout the morning.
Our boys team got off to a flyer with a 1-0 win against the eventual winners, which was a great achievement. We then dominated our second game but just couldn’t score and drew 0-0. In our final group game we just needed a draw to reach the semi-finals. We weren’t at our best but held on for most of the game. Our defence was excellent and Oskar in goal was our player of the day. Unfortunately, we conceded two late goals and missed out on the semi-finals on goal difference. The lads can be proud of their performances though competing at such a high level.
Meanwhile, our girls had a tough start as we were missing players and ended up borrowing one of our supporters, Mia’s cousin Ella to make up the numbers. Ella did a fantastic job throughout the morning and we appreciate her effort to help us out. We lost our first game but came back strongly after that. We lost the second game 2-1 but were unfortunate after taking a 1-0 lead. We then went on to win our last two games, both 1-0 to finish on 6 points. This put us 3rd in the group and just a point away from the semi-finals. Again, a great achievement up against the best teams in the county!
Congratulations to all involved and thanks to all the staff and families for giving up their Saturday to transport and encourage the children.
