We were entered into a tough group, trying to reach the quarter finals of the Birmingham Girls’ Football Cup. Unfortunately, there were several drop outs which meant less games but it did guarantee that all 4 teams from our half of the draw would qualify, so the pressure was off in terms of results.
In the first game we played the strongest team and struggled at first, going 3-0 down quite quickly. Once we got going we played really well though. In the second half Marnie scored a great goal, thanks to good play from Mia, Holly and Fran too. The game ended 3-1.
Our next game was against a team we lost heavily against in the County Finals previously but by now we were playing at our best. Despite several chances and goalmouth scrambles, we just couldn’t get the goal and sadly conceded a soft goal too.
Our final game was a thriller! Our girls certainly deserved something from the evening as they had played ever so well. It was an exciting, open game with both teams creating chances. Grace scored two very well taken goals in a 2-2 draw.
I was extremely proud of the girls who now have more football to look forward to and they can take confidence from the performances, if not the results. A big thank you to Mia’s mum who came along to cheer the girls on.
