As part of their Science work on forces Year 5 made parachutes and tested them by dropping them from the classroom window to the ground below. Each pair made two parachutes, one following the template exactly and a second changing one variable (eg weight of parachutist, size of canopy or length of string) it was important that everything else remained the same to make it a fair test. The pupils then predicted whether the second parachute would take more or less time to reach the ground. In general the predictions were accurate and the activity was done really well, was good fun and taught the class a great deal about air resistance.
