St John Bosco Catholic Primary School

Year 5 took part in a writing competition for National Poetry Day back in October where they had to write a poem entitled ‘this is Me’ all about themselves. After the introductory activity the pupils could choose a poetry style of their choice including acrostics, free verse, rhyming, riddles or anything they choose. There were some great ideas which they enjoyed sharing with the class and each other. Last Monday Mr Mobberley received a large package at school which included a letter saying that 24 of the pupils had been selected to have their work included in a book along with other schools from all over the country because the standard of their poetry was that high! The book will be published later this year and there will be a copy in the class library and no doubt some Mums and dads may buy their own copy as well. All of the participants also received a lovely certificate and bookmark too but most importantly had great fun producing their work. Perhaps this may be the first step for one of the class to follow in the footsteps of Jaqueline Wilson who they watched on a webcast on friday talking about how she became a successful author. Well done to all our budding poets.
