Volcano Artists

Thursday, 31 January 2019

This term Year 3 are learning about what volcanoes are, how they are formed and the volcanoes which exist today. Together we researched what is inside a volcano and created masterpieces to demonstrate our understanding. We made sure we included the magma chamber, main vent, secondary vents and the larva flowing outside the Earth’s crust.

Y3/4 Indoor Football Success

Wednesday, 30 January 2019

Our young footballers played in the finals evening of the 5-a-side indoor competition for local schools. The standard of football was high and we had performed well last week in order to get this far. With a changed squad to give more children a chance to play, we had a difficult start against the strongest team. Despite our best efforts we lost 4-0. However, the response from the whole team was impressive. We went into our second game showing more tactical awareness and great determination and teamwork to stop the opposition scoring. In addition to a vastly improved defence, we also started creating chances and deservedly won the second match 1-0. It was a similar story in the last game and we earned another 1-0 victory. This meant that we finished in second place and took away the silver runners-up medals. A big well done to the 7 members of today’s squad as well as the additional 5 who played last week. Our goal scorers were Aniekeme and Simon and the laces this week for great listening in order to continually improve was also Simon. Congratulations all!

Confirmation Mass

Wednesday, 30 January 2019

Today school celebrated our weekly Mass with Yr 5 and Yr 6 Confirmation candidates. Father Josephat presented the children with their certificates and they sang ‘You have called us by our name’ beautifully. It was lovely to hear the children talk about their experiences of receiving the Holy Spirit. Well done for a reverent celebration of this most Holy Sacrament.

Y6 DT Day

Y6 enjoyed a DT day today. We made chicken kebabs, fruit smoothies, beef casserole and cup cakes. The children learnt lots of new skills and had plenty of fun.

Year 3 Super Readers

Wednesday, 30 January 2019

Year 3 are thoroughly enjoying our new class library. Since the opening, we have been spending much of our lunch times there to read and change books and even take time every Wednesday before the end of the day to have story-time in there. Here we are listening to our new book ‘Esio Trot’ during our end of the day story-time.

Year 3 Musicians

Tuesday, 29 January 2019

This term Year 3 are learning about rhythm and recorders. We have been given our very own musical instrument which we are learning to hold and play correctly. We understand how important it is to sit up with a tall straight back and to control how we blow on our recorders.

So far we have learnt how to play ‘B is for Biker Ben’ and ‘Lazy, Crazy Kangaroo.’

A huge congratulations to all of the children in Years Five and Six who made their Confirmation at St Michael’s Church on Thursday evening. They were an absolute credit to the school: behaviour was exceptional, they were dressed very smartly and their singing was beautiful.

A big thank you goes to those pupils in classes five and six who were not actually making their Confirmation but came along anyway to support their classmates and do the readings and offertory. The commitment you showed was fantastic – well done!

Bishop David McGough was the lead celebrant along with Fr Stan, Fr Damian and Fr Josephat – thank you very much to all of them for a lovely service.

The final thank you goes to all of the staff who so capably helped to prepare the children and ensured that the service ran smoothly.

Bishop Visit

Saturday, 26 January 2019

On Thursday afternoon, we were honoured to have a visit from Bishop David McGough. He came to school to talk to the children in Year Five and Six about Confirmation.

He was really impressed with the preparations that the children had made and the work that they had produced. Also, Bishop McGough commented on the impeccable behaviour and attitude of the children.

ICT Showcase assembly

Friday, 25 January 2019

Today, children showcased their learning through ICT – with a focus on algorithms.  Years 1 to 6 demonstrated their learning of algorithms by creating a dance routine, using Beebots and a variety of software: Scratch and Kodu. Children were thrilled to see how algorithms progress through the different year groups. A very informative assembly – well done children!

Optical Illusions

Thursday, 24 January 2019

This week in science club we were learning how we can use colour, light and patterns to create an image that misleads our brains – known as optical illusions. We understand that the information we receive from our eye is processed by our brain which causes us not to see the true image there. We created our own optical illusion by cutting and sticking paper in such a way to make it appear like a dinosaur’s head is turning as we walk across a room. Here we are with our finished product.
