Reception and Year 1 Workshop

Thursday, 27 June 2019

Reception and Year 1 had a wonderful afternoon exploring our shared story of Stick Man with our family members. We listened to the story and then had a go at some different activities in both classrooms and outside. Here are some pictures of our fun afternoon:

Visit to the Cricket World Cup at Edgbaston

Wednesday, 26 June 2019

A group of 15 of our children enjoyed a memorable day out at Edgbaston as part of a 26,000 strong crowd watching Pakistan against New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup. We were lucky to secure free tickets thanks to the Chance 2 Shine cricket charity and the children were selected based on a competition to produce some work based on another of the World Cup nations, South Africa. The cricket was exciting, the crowd were loud and everyone had a brilliant day. The behaviour of all children was excellent throughout the day. Congratulations to Pakistan who won a close, thrilling encounter.

Year 3 First Holy Communion

Monday, 24 June 2019

It’s that special time of year for the children in Class 3! The children have learnt so much and worked so hard to prepare for this holy sacrament; they have a deep understanding of transubstantiation where the bread and wine are blessed to become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

On Sunday, some of the children in Year 3 received the Sacrament of Holy Communion at Holy Cross Church in West Bromwich where Fr Stan celebrated mass with all the children and their families in church. Please keep these children in your prayers.

Sandwell Athletics Festival

Friday, 21 June 2019

Some of our talented runners travelled to Tipton Sports Academy to compete amongst 8 local schools in the second annual athletics competition. The events were tough as they are the same ones adults compete in – the 100m, 200m and 400m. All of our children did us proud and gave everything they had, encouraging each other all the way and making friends from other schools too. We finished a very respectable 5th in the team event, with a number of our children contributing. Highlights of the afternoon for us were Patrick’s bronze medal in the 200m, Sania’s silver in the 400m and our mixed relay team winning bronze medals too in an extremely close race we so nearly won! It was a great day all round. Well done to the children and thanks to Mrs Stocking who nearly lost her voice through all of her encouraging!

Cadbury World

Thursday, 20 June 2019

Years 3, 4 and 5 paid a visit to Cadbury World as a result of their dedication and hard-work towards our learning this year. They were kindly given two chocolate bars on arrival before being given a tour of the factory, watching an interactive theatre about the history of chocolate and boarding a roller-coaster. They even used chocolate to write their own name and our school badge!

Rounders Competition

Wednesday, 19 June 2019

A group of our year 6 children entered into a district rounders festival, playing three matches in a round robin. We hadn’t had much experience previously so simply went along wanting to enjoy the experience. However, we were pleasantly surprised! We batted very well throughout the festival and scored plenty of rounders – Kajetan and Olaf were particularly big hitters! We made a few mistakes fielding as we got used to the rules but both Maja and Holly bowled well and as the competition went on we got stronger and stronger. In the end we won two and lost one of our three games to finish second overall and win the runners-up trophy and silver medals, which we were delighted with. Congratulations everybody. A special mention to Oskar too, who played one game for the opposition and fielded brilliantly against us!

People who help us

Tuesday, 18 June 2019

Nursery and Reception were visited yesterday by West Midlands Fire Service. We had a look at the Fire Engine and even had a go at spraying the water. We’ve now been visited by all of the emergency services to support us with our topic ‘People who help us’.

VR Aboriginal Experience

Wednesday, 12 June 2019

A number of children got to experience elements of Australian Aboriginal culture through a special VR experience today. Class 6 and class 2 had full lessons, with a selection of children from other classes trying it out at lunch time too. The lessons were unique, exciting and helped us deliver parts of the geography curriculum.

Upton Warren

Monday, 10 June 2019

Y6 visited Upton Warren for some team building activities after SATs and camped overnight. Fortunately the weather was dry on the first day and night so we were able to enjoy some sporting and orienteering challenges. All the children were exceptionally well-behaved and had a great time. Well done Y6 you are a credit to St John Bosco!

                                                                                                                               What a team!

This is the campsite with the tents in the background.

At least the sun was shining.

Enjoying some team building activities.

New All Stars Cricket Club

Monday, 10 June 2019

A number of our younger children in classes 2 and 3 enjoyed their first session of a brand new cricket club after school. We have signed up to the All Stars initiative this year which provides all children who sign up with their own complete set of cricket clothing and equipment. Everyone had a fantastic time and I was impressed with their enthusiasm and the improvement they made during the lesson. We look forward to more cricket over the coming weeks.
