Sandwell Partnership Dodgeball Festival

Tuesday, 28 January 2020

It was a great afternoon at Lyng Primary School as 4 schools each brought 2 teams to compete in a series of dodgeball matches. We split into two separate leagues, with all teams playing at least 6 games in an action-packed event. The standard got higher and higher and all sides enjoyed some success at different times. Well done to our ‘yellow’ team who won 4 and lost 3 overall to finish 3rd in their group. Congratulations as well to our ‘red’ team who were joint winners of their league. All children behaved brilliantly and did us proud, earning their certificates.

Sandwell Partnership Swimming Gala

Friday, 24 January 2020

Together with three other local schools, we took part in a swimming gala as the first sporting event in a newly formed partnership. It was a fantastic afternoon with 10 children from each school competing in front crawl and breast stroke races individually, before finishing with a series of exciting relays. There were some good individual performances throughout and every child deservedly came away with a medal. Well done everyone! We now look forward to further partnership events in the near future.

Class 5 Trip to RAF Cosford

Thursday, 23 January 2020

It was a fantastic day out for us all, learning more about our current history topic – WWI. We experienced an interactive workshop to increase our knowledge: learning about the first planes used during the war, exploring artefacts and even getting to try on the war time clothes! We even managed to learn more about WWII and the Cold Wars, as well as having some science brought to life in their interactive zone.

It was a super day and the behaviour was excellent throughout. Thanks to Mrs Kaur for helping us out on the trip and to the other staff who attended; and a big well done to all of class 5. We received a number of compliments from the museum staff throughout the day.

South Birmingham Basketball Finals

Tuesday, 21 January 2020

As we affiliate to the Kings Norton Sports Association, we are already District Champions and tonight represented the area as one of four league winners from the South Birmingham area. Understandably, the competition was tough, because all teams have been so successful already this year. We started nervously, going behind early in the first game but we eventually found our rhythm, scoring several baskets to win 8-4.

In the second game we seemed to lose our composure, trying to force the issue too much. We were behind 2-0 for most of the game. With not long left we equalised, only to concede immediately again right on the final buzzer, for a tough 4-2 loss.

Luckily, all teams had now won one and lost one, meaning that there was still all to play for in the final game. We certainly saved the best until last! We put in a dominant display to win 6-0, with all children contributing, particularly in defence.

This means that we are now basketball champions of the whole of South Birmingham! A great achievement. Well done to all of the squad who have contributed, not just those there today. A special mention must go to Jacob, who was pointed out by another teacher for his sportsmanship; and also to Grace and Owen, who were mentioned by the organisers for their excellent play.

A big thank you to Mrs Slade and Madison’s dad for coming with us, and well done to all of our basketball squad.

Bosco’s Good Samaritans

This month we are focusing on the virtue ‘Loving and Compassionate.’ Children have produced some work in class and have shown acts of compassion around school. As we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord in January, children, parents and staff have kindly donated baby items, tinned food and money to Brushstrokes. Thank you to all those who donated it will make a difference to the families in need.

EYFS and KS1 Nativity

Friday, 10 January 2020

On the 17th and 18th December the children in EYFS and KS1 performed the Nativity to their families. They did an amazing job narrating, singing and acting using loud and beautifully clear voices.
