Yr3/4/5 Tag Rugby Competition Success

We took part in a tag rugby cup competition for some of the younger members of our squad this week. They were all excited to take part. The level of interest we have in rugby is even higher since Wasps have been coming in every week to deliver tag lessons and support our year 4 children in maths too. We’ve also won a trip to Twickenham over half term, so there is a real buzz around the sport in school at the moment.

We had two teams involved in the festival. Our A team consisted of more experienced players and our B team was made up of younger children, including several year 3s. Both teams played well in their groups. The B team managed two creditable draws along the way but didn’t manage to qualify for the knock-out stages. Meanwhile, our A team managed 3 wins and a draw to reach the semi-finals.

The semi-final was close at first but our consistency in attack and defence led to us forcing a few mistakes and turning them into tries as we won 6-3. The final was tough as both teams were tired. After going 1-0 down we recovered well to lead 2-1. Both teams then had chances but although we didn’t add to our total, our defence was amazing and we held on for the win!

A huge well done to all of our children who had a great time, did their best throughout and became better rugby players. Thanks to Mrs Briscoe for getting us there and supporting our teams.
