WEST BROMWICH ALBION TOURNAMENT

On Monday a team of 8 players from Year 6 missed school for the day to take part in the annual West Bromwich Albion Schools Cup, along with 20 other schools from as far away as Worcester.
In the first game St John Bosco faced local rivals Galton Valley and the result was 2 -0 thanks to goals from Mitchell and Cain. Game two saw them face Sacred Heart and after Mitchell put in the rebound after Ethan hit the bar it was 2 wins out of two.
In the 3rd game the opponents were a school called Caslon and they caught us unaware taking the lead after only 20 seconds. However some determined play from St John Bosco payed off when Christopher scored a deserved equaliser. For the whole game we were the better team, but in probably the only defensive mix up of the whole day Caslon scored to make the score 2 – 1. This was rely unfortunate as Megan and Luke had been really strong in defence looking unbeatable and Mitchell and Chris’s link up play going forward resembled Giggs and Scholes at their prime.
The final game was against a team called Benson and this was the first time when we looked outclassed. They were comfortable 5 – 0 winners and had cruised the group winning all four games and eventually reached the final. However we didn’t let our heads go down and put up with some fairly hefty challenges. I was extremely proud to be in charge of our team, as always they did the school proud and a 50% win rate was pretty good.
