St John Bosco Catholic Primary School

Today was the first day of our Art Club! Following the Bonfire Night celebrations at the weekend, our budding artists made paintings inspired by the fireworks some of them went to see. First, we discussed the history of Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes, to deepen our understanding of where the tradition came from. Then using a cardboard tube, we cut the edge to create a ‘firework fan’ that we could use to stamp the paper with paint. When printing the fireworks onto paper, we used a ‘bounce and twist’ motion as we transferred the paint and the firework pattern onto the paper. The print pattern created by the cardboard roll fans mimicked that of a burst of fireworks brilliantly.

Finally, we added glitter to our paintings to reflect the way the fireworks light up the night sky like lots of little stars. Every child worked so hard on their art works today and went home proudly showing them off to their parents. We can’t wait to see our artists blossom as their skills develop!
