St John Bosco Catholic Primary School

All classes explored different vocations linked to science and carried out various science enquires. The children enjoyed learning about different careers in the science field. Here are some of the careers we had zoologist, volcanologists, nutritionists, astronautical engineers.

In Year 5, the children have been astronautical engineers and explored “The Endeavour” space shuttle. The children have watched the launch and labelled up a complex diagram. Everyone also learnt about one important mission specialist, Mae Jemison: she was the first African American female astronaut!

In Year 4, the children become nutritionists for the afternoon and carried out a pattern-seeking investigation. They looked at the packaging of different foods that are high in energy in order to answer the question ‘Are foods that are high in energy always high in sugar?’. They presented their findings in a table and were amazed by what they found out. The children also looked at the scientist, Charotte Armah – a nutritional biochemist (looking at     the effect of diet on human health).

In Reception, the children tasted the following fruits: oranges, pineapple, mango and passionfruit from the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’. They talked about their texture and used different words to describe their taste.
