St John Bosco Wow Moments

Sandwell Netball Tournament

On 27th April, 14 children from Class Five went to Sandwell Academy to compete in the Sandwell Netball Tournament. All schools within Sandwell could compete and the winner would have the honour of going through to represent Sandwell in the Blackcountry games in July.  We entered two teams who both played extremely well.

Team One competed honourably, defending resiliently and attacking with plenty of flair and imagination. The biggest cheer of the day came when Cain Hadley scored a great point and got no less than he deserved for the effort and determination he had shown during the day. They finished third overall and the whole team can be very proud of what they achieved.

Team Two got off to a flyer by winning their first game with ease. The link up play between Megan Hill and Luke Whitehouse was fantastic allowing Chris Law plenty of chances to score, which he took with considerable skill. They soon found themselves in the final where they played a school that had performed well during the day so SJB knew they would have to perform to their full potential if they wanted to win the match.

The final was extremely close and at times Victoria Loa and Leon Malinowski kept us in the match with some fantastic blocking and top class interceptions. They kept winning the ball back for us and giving it to the determined Isabella York, Luke and Megan to get the ball into Chris to give him a chance of scoring.

Chris didn’t disappoint and managed to score 3 goals to put us 3-2 up with only minutes to go. Once we had the lead we weren’t prepared to let it go and so defended brilliantly to see out the final minutes of the match.

St John Bosco are now the Sandwell Netball Champions 2011! We will now go on to the Blackcountry games where I’m sure we’ll do ourselves proud.

Well done Year 5!
